Gummy Candy Making Guide

Gummy Candy Making Guide

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces of granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of sorbitol
  • 8 ounces of corn syrup (glucose, honey, or golden syrup can be subbed)
  • 6 ounces of cool water (fruit juice, wine, or vodka can be subbed)
  • 44 grams of unflavoured gelatin (about 6 packets)
  • 2 teaspoons of citric acid (leave out if you're using alcohol)
  • 1 ½ teaspoon of flavoring

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, sorbitol, and corn syrup. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Once the sugar is dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat and add the cool water. Stir until everything is well combined.
  3. Sprinkle the unflavoured gelatin over the mixture and let it sit for a few minutes. (This is where the magic happens! The gelatin will work its wonders and turn our liquid mixture into chewy gummy goodness.)
  4. After the gelatin has bloomed, return the saucepan to low heat and stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
  5.  Now it's time to add some flavor to our gummy candies. Stir in the citric acid (if you're not using alcohol) and the flavoring. (This is where you can get creative and let your taste buds guide you. Will it be fruity, tangy, or maybe even a little spicy? The choice is yours!)
  6. Once everything is well mixed, pour the liquid mixture into your favorite gummy molds.
  7.  Let the gummy candies set at room temperature for about 2 hours, or until they are firm.
  8. Once the gummy candies are firm, pop them out of the molds and get ready to indulge in a burst of flavour.
